Esperame (1932)
Musical Romance in Spanish.
Carlos Gardel, the popular Argentine singing actor, is the principal attraction in "Espérame" ("Wait for Me"), the new Spanish language film from Paramount's Joinville studios, now at the Teatro Variedades.
Senor Gardel is ably supported by Goyita Herrero as the lovelorn daughter of a Castilian family, a café where Señor Gardel is the a cafe where Senor Gardel is the entertainer, she scores a hit with its patrons—and the entertainer—by her singing and dancing.
Considerable attention has been devoted to the settings of this familiar story of the society girl whose hand is won by a supposedly humble cabaret artist. The scenes at the masked ball and in the popular café are particularly interesting. There is an abundance of comic incidents in this otherwise highly sentimental tale.
Lolita Benavente's dancing merits praise, while the part of the mother is pleasantly acted by Señora Artero.
Songs by Pilar Arcos and dancing by Rosita Ortega are features of the stage revue, which carries the somewhat flamboyant title of "Del Infierno a la Gloria."
